Privacy Notice

Broadening Horizons (Have a Go) CIC (“we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This notice explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have. It covers both our DIY training courses and this website.

We are Broadening Horizons (Have a Go) CIC, trading as Have a Go — a community interest company that runs the Have a Go DIY Training Courses.

We are the data controller responsible for your personal information. We are registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator, under registration number 00012434892.

Booking and attending a course

When you book onto or take part in one of our courses, we collect your name, your contact details (such as your email address and phone number) and a record of your payment. We use this information to:

• manage your booking and your place on the course;
• contact you about the course you have booked;
• keep proper business, accounting and insurance records.

Our lawful basis for most of this is our legitimate interest in running the course and keeping proper records. For the accounting and tax records we are required to keep, our lawful basis is our legal obligation.

Payments

Card payments are handled securely by our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card number or security code — these are passed directly to the payment provider. We keep only a record of the transaction (such as your name, the amount paid and the date) for our accounts.

Marketing

If you have asked to hear from us, we may occasionally email you about our courses, offers or gift vouchers. We only do this where you have given us your consent, and you can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting us.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal information. We will not share it with any other businesses except as necessary to run our courses and website — for example, our payment provider, and (where relevant) a shipping provider to fulfil an order.

We will not share your data with any other persons unless requested by law enforcement or legal representation, or where we are otherwise required to by law.

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

• Course booking records: 12 months from the date of your course, so we can administer your place and keep our records.
• Payment and accounting records: 7 years, because UK tax law requires us to keep them.
• Comments: if you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely, so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
• Website accounts: for users who register on the website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit or delete their personal information at any time (except their username). Administrators can also see and edit that information.

Your rights over your data

You have the right to:

• ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
• ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
• ask us to erase your data;
• object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it.

This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for accounting, legal or security purposes.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at admin@haveago.uk. If you are ever unhappy with how we handle your information, please tell us so we can put it right — and you also have the right to complain to the ICO at ico.org.uk.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam-detection service.
